Let Them Eat Cake: Cake for a Cause

Ok, so the title may sound crass but it is the new concept for friendly flours! Almost everyone knows the infamous declaration of Marie Antoinette upon hearing the plight of the starving masses, “let them eat cake.” Although it is perhaps one of the most bitter statements ever made, we wish to use it as our slogan to redeem the sweetness of cake!
With Robin Hood as our champion, we want to give back to the needy using Antoinette’s dark statement against her. Our idea is to feed you cake so we may feed the hungry. By enjoying our cake, you can help alleviate the pangs of the hungry. Two figures and their distinctive personalities converge to affect this century of the hungry.

Sunrays and Saturdays

Yesterday, Saturday, marked our first promotional event. We looked forward to it for weeks, and prepared for six hours the day of and about 2 hours the night before. There was, of course, very little interest because we didn’t do the greatest job of advertising and didn’t even see each other the week of. Also, we probably disturbed our housemate. Leslie, thank you for putting up with all of our shenanigans. Someday a bit of us may rub off on you
The morning began with a trip to the store to purchase a few essential items. Namely fondant. And cupcake cups which we ended up forgetting. These ended up being our choices:

It was a tough choice but we ended up choosing both.

We have never made a wedding cake before. Our materials seemed unforgiving.

With a little work, they yielded to our growing skill level and a few helpful tools.

The cupcakes were more fun. I wish I had pictures of the surgery but my hands were obviously occupied at that point. This was our finished product in their Toy Story cups!

Raspberry jelly filled, some with buttercream frosting and others with vanilla, and strawberry preserve filled, also with the above frosting options.

Next the strawberries. Meredith has mad wedding dress making skills, even if the bride ended up losing her dress before she and her groom had left the party.

Like I said, the turnout wasn’t huge, just a few intimate friends.

But I think they had fun!

Overall, the day was a huge success. Good food was had by good friends and both are great blessings from God.

Scrambled Eggs and Cake!

Just kidding – the title is kind of an inside joke
So today we of Friendly Flours are hosting our first promotional event. The eve of such an undertaking began last night with baking the cake portion of our wedding cake and making some icing. We arose fairly early to purchase fondant and decor for our first event in the park! God willing we will have a decent turn out and hopefully the weather cooperates.
One amusing kerfuffle of the day was our daunting decision over which cupcake cups to use. We visited the store and of course forgot those little paper devils. When we arrived home, we were faced with a difficult decision: Toy Story theme or plain. Because we are girly, we wanted something elegant and flowery. Toy Story it was. We added some plain for good measure but we’re satisfied with the comicness of it.
We are excited to launch our cake endeavours!
